2/4 @ Millville
The Griffins have had a busy schedule the last couple of weeks, and it looked on Tuesday like the team ran out of gas. Sullivan didn’t score for the first six minutes of the game and managed only eight points in the first half. The team only had 10 total points until Justin Metzger hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the third quarter. The team was down 31-13.
The Griffins continued fighting but was unable to make the plays to completely get back in the game. Sullivan lost 44-29 to split the season series with the Quakers.
Justin Metzger led the team with nine points. Jesse Williams and Sam Carpenter each had seven points. Williams had nine rebounds and Carpenter had four assists. Alex Schweitzer and Riley King each added five points. Schweitzer and Jalen Thomas each pulled in four rebounds.
The jayvee team also lost 38-31. Riley King led Sullivan with 12 points.
2/8 @ Bucktail
Sullivan woke up early to head to Bucktail on Saturday with a share of second place in the Mid Penn League on the line. The Griffins came out ready to play. Sullivan outscored the host 17-8 in the first quarter and followed that up with a 15-6 advantage in the second quarter to seize control of the game. Alex Schweitzer didn’t score a point in the first half, but he had eight assists as he continuously found teammates in good positions to score.
The second half wasn’t as pretty, as Bucktail changed defenses and kept the Griffin offense off balance. The Bucks hit some shots late to make the score look closer than that game really was, but in the end the Griffins cruised to a 53-42 win.
Sam Carpenter led Sullivan with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jesse Williams was 5-6 from the field and tallied 14 points. Williams also had five rebounds and two blocks. Justin Metzger was 6-11 from the field for 14 points. Metzger pulled in four rebounds and had two steals. Schweitzer scored four points for the game, while dishing out nine assists and pulling in five rebounds. Riley King had four points for the Griffins and Omar Rubio had two.
The jayvee team dominated the Bucks in a 59-25 win. Trey Higley led Sullivan with 14 points. Bryon Fitzgerald had 13 points and Riley King scored 11. The jayvee team is now 16-2.
The Griffin boys are now 16-5 on the season. The team has dealt with a lot the last few weeks, as sickness and injury has plagued the team. The Griffins are looking to get healthy for their second season…..the District IV playoffs. After an away game at Wyalusing on 2/11, the team will have a few days off as they look forward to hosting a playoff game next week. We anticipate a Tuesday home game, but nothing is 100% until this Sunday afternoon. Good luck, guys! Let’s go Griffins!!!
