Sullivan traveled to take on the Rams last Tuesday. The team was coming off winning the Mountain Madness tournament championship and looking to ride that momentum forward. It didn’t take long for the Griffins to impose their will on the host.
The Griffins used outstanding pressure defense and solid zone offense in the half court to open up an early 14-0 lead. CMVT finally hit a couple of shots to get the home fans going, but the Griffins answered back and gradually opened up a 19-point halftime lead.
Sullivan didn’t let up in the third quarter or for the rest of the second half. The Griffins imposed their will all game long and cruised to a 61-31 win.
Justin Metzger led the Griffins with 14 points. Sam Carpenter added 12 points while pulling down four rebounds. Carpenter also dished out five assists and had four steals. Jesse Williams had 11 points and three blocks. Alex Schweitzer (six rebounds), Jalen Thomas (four steals), and Omar Rubio (four rebounds) each scored six points. Bryon Fitzgerald scored four points while Conner Smithkors had two.
The jayvee team improved to 2-0 with a 46-18 win. Tre Powell led Sullivan with 10 points.
